One Week Down, Three to Go

Well, my first week of training is finished and I'm on my second week. Everything has been good so far. I've started having some backing practice hooking up these pups. Surprisingly I have done not too bad. Hooking up doubles is a totally different adventure than hooking up a single trailer and backing up a 53 footer.

I've missed a few gears here and there. I haven't gotten in too much trouble with that. I had one major mishap last Friday when going through an interchange. I had a heavy load and the ramp to the bypass is a steep 360 incline. I have a tendency to over rev the engine making me miss my gears when I'm down shifting. So, let's just say after missing several gears I was going so slow that I just stopped and started from scratch. You aren't supposed to stop a 80,000 lbs vehicle in the middle of an interstate interchange. Cars started to swoosh around me on the shoulder. Shane, my trainer, was very good in that situation. He did raise his voice or anything. Just talked me through the steps. So glad he's not hot headed. :)

What I don't like on the road so far.....even if all I do is drive.....I still get black gunk under my nails. GROSS!!!
