The deadline to be registered for classes and have them paid for was 7:00 pm today. I first applied for the Medical Technology program at Dekalb Tech back in April. I contacted them in July after not hearing anything from them to find out when I would know about my admission status. They said that they weren't looking at the fall quarter till August because classes didn't start until October. But, they did look in my file and stated that they were still waiting on several of my transcripts. I contacted my other schools and put in a second request for the transcripts to be sent. In August, I contacted Dekalb again to verify that they now had all of my transcripts and to check on the status of my application. They told me that all of my transcripts were in and that my file needed to be sent to an evaluation team to determine which classes I could exempt from since I already had a degree. When I returned from India at the end of August, my dad and I drove down to the school to talk to them face to face. The admissions department clerk told me that my file was still being evaluated. She gave me her email and told me to check with her if I still don't hear anything when it got closer to the fall deadline. (We, also, talked with financial aid and found out that I couldn't get any grants because I already had a degree and they didn't accept any other financial aid from the government.) I waited a week and a half and contacted her. She investigated and said that my file was sent back from the evaluation team because it was missing a transcript. She found the transcript that wasn't in the file and was sending it back down to the evaluation team. NOW.... it is pass the due date and I have no admission status.
I wasn't 100% sure that I wanted to go back to school. I would love to get my Med Tech degree. I think that I would enjoy working in that environment...after all it was my first major and I've worked in a hospital lab before, which I loved. However, the fact that I'd have no financial aid was not a motivating factor. My parents agreed to help me until I got on my feet. Being the unemployed person that I am...getting a full time job was also a priority. But, if I went back to school I could only get jobs second or third shift since the classes were all during the day. That was becoming difficult to find unless I wanted to be a waitress...which wouldn't pay my bills....or a forklift driver...which I don't have a certification for nor would my dad be too thrilled about me working on the docks.
So...I guess no school.... now just need a job. Maybe school later.
