I just have a quick question...have street signs become extinct? I am staying with Paige this weekend cause her parents are out of town... SO, I had a book club meeting in Fayetteville and she went with the women's ministry from church to Griffin Assembly. I left Fayetteville around 9:30 and still have not heard from Paige that they are heading back toward her house. Therefore, I decided to "wander" in a different direction towards her house than my normal route that I know. If I went the normal route...I would have went way out of the way. So, I figured I would just head in that general direction and find my way. I know the Griffin/Hampton/Sunnyside/Ponoma Area...so there shouldn't be a problem. I would pay attention to street signs and when one was familiar I would match that with my sense of direction....and eventually get there. I would have a nice scenic drive at 9:30 at night and not be sitting in Paige's driveway waiting for who knows how long. Well, I was just kidding about looking at street signs. There were none...even at some major intersections....no street sign was to be found to tell me what streets were crossing at the major intersections. And if for some small chance there was a street sign....it would be so crooked that you couldn't read it UNTIL you passed it and then it is too late to turn down the road if you wanted to. Therefore, I had to rely on my sense of direction. Some of ya'll are laughing right now at me cause you have experienced my lack of a sense of direction. I usually know where I am...but when it comes to this way is S, N, E, or W....I couldn't tell you. That would of been a big help in knowing if I was driving back towards Fayetteville, Jackson, McDonough, etc. I only had an inkling of a clue as to where my car was heading. But, I kept going...knowing that I would eventually hit something that I knew. I started to come to an area with abandoned looking factories (you know the old brick ones), run down shotgun homes, and a bunch of people walking up and down the street that I wouldn't particularly care to stop and ask for directions from....I was just about to turn around and try to retrace my steps...when I found a street that I knew. No, there wasn't a street sign...I just happened to recognize my surroundings. I soon ran into the Griffin old downtown area...and I knew exactly how to get to Paige's from there. To my surprise, I even beat the ladies to Paige's neighborhood by a few minutes. But, I am telling my story because....I pay taxes that are supposed to pay for street signs....and there were none to be found. I probably wouldn't have wasted as much gas in my wandering if I had street signs to help me find my way. This wasn't the first time I have noticed the lack of street signs...but it was the first time that it affected me. Ummm...isn't that ironic...I didn't notice a problem until that problem started to affect me (Christine....are ya listening?).........
Alrighty, the book club meeting went well. We had a good discussion about different theology issues that were brought up in the book we were reading...and about our own personal lives. I was very pleased with our discussion. It's been awhile that we've read a book that we had a lot to say about. It was a nice change. I can't wait to read the last half of the book and see what other things the author is going to affront us with.
