Has anyone ever read The Sacred Canopy? I had to read it for my Sociology of Religion class today and I have never read an article that used so many big words. I had to look up every other word. It took me like two hours to read five pages. And I'm a smart person, so not to be mean...but how did the dumb people in my class read it? The author was talking about the legitimation of the existence of religion based on our sociality. Exactly...what in the world!!! It made a lot of interesting arguments once I got past all of the wordage... let me just say...if you have something to say and you want the world to know your thoughts...put it in plain everyday english! THANK YOU! Anyways... I just wanted to drop by in the midst of doing my mounds of homework. One thing I wanted to ask you folks was... last night my professor for History of Christianity stated that it is believed that Ruth and Jonah are fictional literary attempts to extinguish Ezra's attempts to purify the Jews by making them get rid of their foreign wives and children. So Ruth and Jonah were simply literary attempts to show that God would send Jonah to save foreigners and that God used Ruth, a foreigner, to bring about King David; therefore, making the point that God wasn't punishing them because of their involvement with foreigners but for their disobedience to the covenant...... Have you guys ever heard of this before? What do you think?
